How the test works
- 01
Answer in a real sheet
Each question is a small spreadsheet and one task. Type the formula in the answer cell, or click cells to insert references.
- 02
Answers save as you type
Skip around, flag questions to come back to, and change any answer until you finish.
- 03
Beat the clock
The timer runs for the whole test. When it reaches zero, whatever you've written is marked.
- 04
Learn from every miss
See what your formula returned, why it was marked wrong, a correct formula and an explanation.
Try a sample question
This is the kind of question you'll get, from the Conditional math topic. Work out the formula, then check your thinking.
What was the total revenue from the North region?
Answer cell: I2 (North revenue)
Show the answer ⌄
=SUMIF(B2:B11,"North",F2:F11)Result: $8,230.00
SUMIF looks down B2:B11 for “North” and adds the matching values from F2:F11.

About this Excel test
- What's on a typical Excel test for a job?
- Most employer tests check lookups (VLOOKUP or XLOOKUP), IF statements, conditional sums like SUMIFS and COUNTIFS, cleaning text, and working with dates. This practice test covers all of them.
- How long does the test take?
- The full test is 9 questions in 25 minutes, one from every topic. The quick check is 5 questions in 12 minutes, and a focus test gives you 2 questions per topic at 2½ minutes each. You can skip questions and come back to them before you finish.
- Is the Excel practice test free?
- Yes, and you don't need an account to take it. The free version draws its questions from the 18 free exercises. Premium members get questions from all 100.
- What score do I need to pass an Excel test?
- Each employer sets its own pass mark, so there's no single number to aim for. Use this test to find your gaps: if you get every question in the full test right with time to spare, you have a solid command of the formulas these tests usually cover.
- Does it work like real Excel?
- You type formulas exactly as you would in Excel, with the same function names, syntax and cell references, and you can click cells to insert references. Formulas are calculated by the site's own engine, which supports every function used in the questions.
- Can I take it more than once?
- Yes. Each attempt picks a new mix of questions and, where it can, avoids the ones you had in your recent tests. Your recent scores appear on this page so you can see your progress.
- Do my answers count toward my progress?
- Yes. Correct answers are marked as solved exercises: on your account if you're signed in, or in this browser if you're not. Browser progress moves to your account when you sign up.
